What are dentures and do I need them?

Going through life with a missing tooth can be very traumatic. Whether you’ve lost your teeth due to an accident, gum disease, injury, or decay, it can drain your confidence and affect your quality of life.

Not only are you afraid to smile freely, but missing teeth can cause you to slur your words and stop you from eating your favourite foods, as chewing becomes unbearable. That’s besides your jawbone being compromised as the surrounding teeth slowly shift towards the empty spaces in your mouth, causing periodontal disease and tooth decay.

The good news is that you don’t have to live your life being miserable with missing teeth and low self-esteem. Quality Dental Group is here to make you feel good again and bring back your amazing smile. An effective solution that we recommend is dental dentures, a safe and natural-looking replacement for your missing teeth. Dentures will let you live your life on your own terms with a confident smile, eating whatever you like without pain and having the freedom to speak clearly.

How will I know if I need dentures?

You can pop in for a dental consultation at one of our practices so that we can carry out a consultation and advise you of the best course of action. If you already have a missing tooth or teeth, it is likely that you need dentures or runs the risk of losing more teeth as they become weaker. If you have loose or moving teeth, that’s a sign of decay or periodontal disease that may require dentures.

Other signs that you may need dentures are severe toothaches that cause discomfort – a clear sign of tooth decay, or red and swollen gums – an indication of periodontal disease. A less obvious sign that dentures are required is when you experience pain while chewing or eating hard foods – an indicator that your teeth aren’t working as they should.

How do dentures work?

During your consultation, we will examine the condition of your teeth and gums and advise if you do, indeed, require dental dentures. If that is the case, you might need partial or complete dentures.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are a suitable option to replace a portion of your teeth. These rely on your healthy teeth and bone around the denture for support and are sometimes held in place with clasps that we secure. They look just like normal teeth and prevent your healthy teeth from shifting.

Complete dentures

If all of your top or bottom teeth are missing, you might require complete dentures. A complete set of dentures will not only aid with eating and speaking but also improve the sunken profile caused by missing teeth. A complete set of dentures may require a fixative to keep them in place and will require to be removed at night to prevent your gums from becoming sore.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are an alternative to dentures that we recommend to replace missing teeth. Unlike dental dentures, dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. It is a modern alternative that is affordable and very popular.  Our dental implants are high-quality titanium ‘roots’ that are surgically fixed into your jawbone.

Each implant bonds with the surrounding bone to create a solid foundation for the replacement tooth and help to prevent bone deterioration at the site of your lost tooth, keeping your facial structure intact. They are safe, comfortable and a long-lasting solution that looks and functions exactly like a normal tooth.

Missing a tooth or teeth? Worried at the thought of dentures? Dental Implants can provide life changing treatment.

No-one likes the thought of losing a tooth – after all, your smile is one of your most stand-out features, expressing a whole host of different emotions each minute of the day. But the consequences of tooth loss doesn’t stop there. Eating, speaking and confidence are all things that can become affected by losing even just a single tooth. Meanwhile, multiple missing teeth and sustained denture-wearing can worsen the loss of these functions, affect your happiness, and cause you to fall out of love with your smile altogether.

Conventional dentures are a means of replacing missing teeth. However, in the long-term there can be disadvantages that begin to take their toll day-to-day. Dentures limit the types of foods you can eat, which not only affects your wellbeing levels because you can’t eat the foods you enjoy, but also limits vitamin and nutritional intake. Foods like chewy meats such as steak and chops, sticky confectionary, salad leaves and lettuce and nuts and seeds are all a no-go for denture-wearers, jeopardising stability and becoming easily stuck within the teeth. What’s more, the denture base can impede on your ability to make full use of your taste buds, diluting the taste of certain foods.

Loose dentures can also present problems with speaking in front of others and leave you feeling worried about kissing. Many people become anxious that their dentures might make some untimely movements whilst they’re locking lips with a loved one – this is a perfectly rational worry to have. Perhaps you’ve found yourself turning to dental fixatives to hold your dentures in place and you’ve become tired of the unpredictability that can accompany wearing them? This is where dental implants come in.

Dental implants are pretty remarkable, lasting a lifetime, provided patients brush and floss every day and attend routine check-ups – they can be cared for like a natural tooth. An implant acts as a replacement tooth root and is surgically inserted into your jawbone, then left to fuse with it over a period of around 4-6 months. During this time, bone grows around the implant, accepting it as if it were a new and natural part of the body. It’s thanks to this process that the implant offers stability, allowing you the freedom to eat the foods you love and speak with clarity again. Replacing a single missing tooth with a dental implant as soon as possible is also a huge investment into the health of your smile. In covering the vacant area of gum, you’re protected against an increased risk of problems occurring with your remaining teeth.

The world of dentistry is constantly evolving, and one of the most exciting advancements to come about in recent years is the concept of replacing a whole set of teeth, in just a single appointment. Thanks to All-on-4 dental implant treatment, it’s possible to secure a whole set of teeth using only 4 implants, the same day! All-on-4 dental implants treatment offers a great level of stability as it’s a completely fixed solution that secures a bridge, allowing you to smile and eat without the worry of your teeth coming loose.

It’s never been easier to replace a missing gaps or gaps in your smile. Thanks to dental implants, patients have a fixed and permanent option, allowing them to eat, speak and smile with confidence again, and without the pitfalls that can accompany denture-wearing.

New Year, New Smile

Is your new year’s resolution to feel better about your smile? Maybe you’ve been thinking about improvements for a while – or maybe spending the last nine months talking to friends, family and colleagues over Zoom has made you take a step back and reassess that smile of yours.

We all suffer from insecurities and doubts when it comes to our teeth. Am I doing enough to take care of them? How do I really look when I smile? Can people see my fillings when I laugh? Well now, thanks to so much time spent in conference calls and in front of screens, we all know the answers to these questions.

And 2021 is the perfect time to address them. Innovations in cosmetic dentistry have made it easier than ever to get the smile you want and deserve, and what better way to celebrate the end of lockdown (when it comes) than with a smile you’re proud to finally get the opportunity to show off? At Quality Dental Group, we’ve been able to keep all our practices open in order to provide our patients with the treatments and care they need, and that includes cosmetic dentistry treatments too.

A brighter smile for a brighter year

After the year we’ve had we can all be forgiven for looking forward to whatever brightness is on the horizon in 2021. For some, that might mean a big holiday somewhere warm and sunny, while for many more it will mean hugs from family and friends. One way to make sure this year is brighter than the last is to consider teeth-whitening. For so many of us, all this FaceTiming and Zooming has shown us that even a small thing like whiter teeth could help us feel better about ourselves.

At Quality Dental, we offer Enlighten teeth-whitening, who have been helping to brighten smiles for years. Developed in the US, Enlighten involves a combination of at-home teeth whitening and an in-chair treatment at the practice of your choice. Enlighten is a safe and effective treatment that patients only have good things to say about and can whiten and brighten teeth that have been stained by tea, coffee, red wine or even smoking.

Smile like you mean it with Invisalign

Invisalign is one of our most popular teeth straightening treatments at Quality Dental. These clear aligners allow you to straighten your teeth with minimal fuss and they’re so unobtrusive that we’re willing to bet your friends and colleagues won’t even notice when you wear them to your next Google Hangout. So, if you’ve been thinking about realigning your teeth, then Invisalign could be the solution you’ve been looking for.

Using multiple sets of clear aligners, Invisalign gets to work over several months, during which time you will switch out your aligners to ensure the teeth are moving in the right direction. Here at Quality Dental we also have an Itero 3D scanner, so there’s no longer any need to take an uncomfortable impression. It also means we can send a scan of your mouth to Invisalign within 15 minutes, from which we can build a simulation of your unique case and the projected movements of your teeth.

Invest in yourself in 2021 with a trip to the hygienist

If you’re craving a change and want to invest in yourself during this current lockdown, then we here at Quality Dental can help you do so. A visit to one of our hygienists could be all you need to help reveal a brighter, better smile. Regular visits to the hygienist help keep your gums and teeth healthy, but they can also help keep them looking great, thanks to innovative stain removal techniques such as Prophy Jet stain removal. Prophy Jet removal gently gets to work using a jet stream of sodium bicarbonate that is able to deeply clean the mouth with minimal discomfort and help remove any superficial staining for a brighter smile to help boost your confidence for the year ahead.

Lockdown Update

Over the weekend on 31st October 2020 the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced a second lockdown for a minimum of one month due to the rising number of cases of Covid-19.

Quality Dental will still remain open as usual. We are operating as normal and are writing to inform you that all current appointments will remain as scheduled and all services for future appointments, routine or otherwise, are available to be booked. Our practice is following procedures and protocols to the highest standard to ensure all patients, staff and the wider community are being treated in the safest manner possible.

We are happy that we are allowed to remain open

Over the last few months, we have been busy gaining more knowledge about how the virus spreads and then implementing the highest standard of cross infection control measures.

You may have noticed that we have invested in dental HEPA filters, foggers and external ventilation systems which disinfect the air within the building. These three devices amongst a myriad of other systems and procedures will ensure your visit to ( Practice Name ) is safe and pleasant as possible.

Something wonderful has been happening and everyone is spreading the word!

Since we opened our doors in June there has been the most amazing amount of patients attending with gratitude and wanting to see our hygienist, have their teeth straightened and whitened or even just to come for their appointment and have a chat. We have been working so hard to make sure that our community is being served to the best standard and we have been awed by all the great comments and attendance by you all. We ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU!

The demand for our services has been unprecedented and we have been moving our practice to normal working hours and increasing the numbers of clinicians working. Please be patient with us as we work our socks off to do what we love, to serve you in the best possible way.

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our heart, for your continued support and patience during this time, and hope you all remain well and safe.
